Alcantara Gorge Entrance Fee

The Alcantara Gorge offers two main entrance options, each with different pricing:

  • Main (Private) Entrance: This is the primary entrance and includes elevator access to descend into the gorge, which is especially convenient for families and those with mobility issues. The entrance fee is €13.00 per adult (including the lift) and €9.00 for children aged 6–12. If you do not require the elevator, entrance-only tickets are €8.00 per adult and €5.00 for children[1][2].
  • Local (Public) Entrance: Situated approximately 150 meters up the road from the main entrance, this municipal access point uses stairs only (about 80–284 steps, depending on the source). The admission fee here is much lower—around €1.50–2.00 per adult, and often children enter free. This is the preferred choice for budget travelers and locals[1][2][4][5][6].

Both entrances give you access to the gorge, though the main entrance includes more developed facilities like large parking areas, ticket offices, and access to the Botanical and Geological Garden. Parking near the main entrance is typically free or by donation, though some visitors mention paying a small fee for parking[1][2][5].

Opening hours vary by season, but in summer the gorge is generally open from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM[1][2].
