Ticket types and what they include
A standard Kew Gardens ticket gives you daytime entry to the gardens. Kew notes that some attractions close earlier than the gardens, so a late arrival may mean you see less. Free guided walking tours are also included with entry on selected days.
Ticket categories include adult, child, young person or student, concession, family and local resident rates. Students may need to show valid student ID, and concession visitors may need to show proof of eligibility on arrival.
How to save money at Kew Gardens
The easiest way to save is to book online, because Kew states that online tickets offer the best value compared with gate prices.
There is also an after 4pm adult ticket from 1 May to 30 September. This costs £10 online or £11 at the gate, but Kew warns that many attractions close before the gardens.
Visitors receiving Universal Credit or Pension Credit can get a £1 ticket, and Kew says each eligible visitor can also buy up to 4 additional guest tickets.
Kew also offers discounts for local residents in Richmond, Kingston-upon-Thames, Hammersmith, Fulham, Wandsworth and Hounslow. For daytime visits, local resident pricing matches the standard concession rate.
For frequent visitors, membership can be better value than buying separate tickets. Kew’s Seed membership starts from £54 a year, and a standard peak adult online ticket is £24, so membership may work out cheaper from around the third peak visit.
How to buy tickets
Kew says you can buy any ticket type at the gate, but online booking gives the best value. Bring your ticket on your phone or as a printout, and be ready to show ID if you booked a student or concession ticket.
Group visits are available, but Kew says the minimum group size is 15 people and pre-booking is required.
Best time to visit
If your main goal is paying less, off-peak visits from 1 November to 31 January are cheaper than peak visits from 1 February to 31 October. For summer visits, the after 4pm ticket can also be a useful budget option.
